The world of Bollywood is much darker than it appears to be. The glamour and glitz seem like just a facade. What lies beneath the heights of stardom is often not so beautiful. Here is a list of some Bollywood celebrities who committed suicide under mysterious circumstances:
1. Sridevi
The superstar actress of Bollywood died under mysterious conditions in a renowned Dubai hotel. The actress was found dead in a bathtub and her death was declared as an accidental drowning. But since then, there have been many theories and allegations calling it a well covered up murder.
2. Jiah Khan
Jiah Khan’s death caused a big scandal back in the day. The actress had committed suicide in her Juhu apartment. A six-page suicide note was found by her sister where she directly accused Bollywood actor Suraj Pancholi. He was later cleared in all charges. Her mother then hired a British forensic expert who concluded in a report that Jiah’s hanging was staged and the marks on her face and neck indicate that there was more to her death.
3. Parveen Babi
Parveen Babi was allegedly diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. In January 2005, she was found dead in her home and her body was found after three days. She allegedly committed suicide by starving herself to death. Parveen’s post-mortem reports stated that she only had alcohol in her stomach and there were no traces of food. The police concluded that she died due to organ failure and diabetes.
4. Divya Bharti
Amidst a fledgling career, actress Divya Bharti died suddenly in April 1993 under mysterious circumstances. She reportedly fell off the fifth floor of her apartment in Mumbai. Doctors revealed that the cause of her death was heavy internal bleeding at the back of her head. Several reports suggested that the actress committed suicide or was pushed by someone, claims that were never proven true.
5. Guru Dutt
The iconic director of classics like Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, and Pyaasa was found dead in his room on October 10, 1964. His cause of death was due to allegedly consuming a deadly mixture of alcohol and sleeping pills. He was reportedly fighting depression for a long time and had attempted suicide twice prior to his death. It is not clear if his death was due to suicide, accidental overdose, or murder.
6. Nafisa Joseph
This former Miss India and TV actress hanged herself in her apartment a few years ago. Her suicide came as a shock because she was just weeks away from being married. The former VJ discovered that her husband-to-be was still married when he claimed that he had been divorced. This shocked her and led her to take such a drastic step.
There are many trials and tribulations that we face in life, and Bollywood celebrities are not above that. While we may never know the truth behind all these cases, it is important to ensure we as a society can be supportive of all people. One shouldn’t hesitate to reach out to people if they’re experiencing any mental or emotional stress.
