All across the globe, global events are being cancelled or postponed indefinitely. However, the department of Defence Production recently announced the dates and location of the much awaited aviation exhibition– Aero India. This biennial air show and aviation exhibition is decided to take place in the state capital of Bengaluru from the 3rd to 7th February, 2021. According to the Defence Exhibition Organisation, the 13th season of Aero India will be held at Air Force Station, Yelahanka, Bengaluru.
This decision came as a relief to the potential participants as they were anxiously waiting for the dates amidst coronavirus. The decision to host Aero India was taken after the domestic defence industry and the global aerospace majors came to a consensus. Sources have informed that the aviation exhibition is going to see big investors and global defence majors. The event aims to showcase the domestic defence manufacturing of India.
Earlier, the government had announced how it wants to stop the procurement and import of armed forces by 2024. It will be done in an effort to support domestic defence manufacturing and will spend around $130 billion around it. Aero India had its inception in the year 1996 and was hosted in Bengaluru. However, this year it will be a little different as maximum precautions need to be taken due to coronavirus.
Commenting on the announcement of the event, a former Defence PSU employee said, “Sufficient time is necessary to arrange the logistics to plan for the event so it was imperative to announce the information and ensuring good participation from companies from many countries. With it being a defence programme, there is also a requirement for inter-governmental coordination. It only goes on to show India’s firm decision to plan ahead for one of the most important sectors for India.” It is going to be one sight to see and moreover, it will be important to see how the authorities plan to manage the entire situation at Aero India amidst coronavirus.
