Apple iPhone SE 2020 with A13 Bionic SoC, iOS13 Launched: Here’s Everything You Need to Know

American tech giant Apple introduced its enhanced version of the 5s aka iPhone SE back in 2016, and now the company has launched a refreshed version of the iPhone SE, christened as “Apple iPhone SE 2020” in Apple Campus, Cupertino. The second-generation iPhone SE now comes with several new upgrades including a compact design, Touch ID for industry-leading security, Apple-designed A13 Bionic chipset, and best single-camera system.

The new iPhone SE comes decorated with aerospace‑grade aluminium chassis and a durable and reflective glass design with an all-black front, giving it an overall premium and gorgeous outlook. The back panel of the iPhone SE (2020) is made using a seven-layer ink process for precise hues and opacity, delivering a rich depth of colour. The new smartphone from Apple is a dust and water-resistant device as it comes with an IP67 rating (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes). However, the new iPhone packs the perfect blend of glass and metal design, a colour-matched aluminium band, and luxuriousness which are all associated with the Apple and iPhone brand.

As for pricing and availability, the new iPhone SE comes in three different variants based on its internal storage configuration: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage. The iPhone SE 2020 price in India starts at Rs. 42,500 for the 64GB native storage variant. The 128GB variant has been launched with a price tag of Rs. 47,800 and the iPhone SE with 256GB storage option is priced at Rs. 58,300. Carried a such an attractive price tag, the Apple iPhone SE 2020 will be made available in body shades options including Black, White and PRODUCT (RED). Unfortunately, the Cupertino-based company has made no official announcements about the availability of the new iPhone SE for other markets including India but it will be soon available in India through Apple Authorized Resellers.

iPhone SE 2020 Specifications and Features:

As far as specifications are concerned, the new edition of iPhone SE comes equipped with a 4.7-inch (1334 x 750 pixels) Retina HD display with a scratch resistance protective glass on the top. The Retina HD display with True Tone feature automatically adjusts onscreen white balance to match the ambient light for a more natural and paper-like viewing experience in all kinds of environments. The display has 326 ppi density, 1400:1 contrast ratio and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 playback. Talking about its performance, the smartphone is powered by a 64-bit Apple-designed A13 Bionic six-core processor, especially designed to handle the most demanding tasks.

A13 Bionic was built with a focus on machine learning, immersive 3D games, perfect photography, extraordinary augmented reality apps and AR experiences, with a dedicated 8-core Neural Engine capable of 5 trillion operations per second. Being a smartphone, the iPhone SE (2020) features Siri AI voice assistant and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor which has been placed underneath the physical Home Button of the phone. In terms of memory, the iPhone SE is backed up by a 3GB of RAM and 64GB/ 128GB /256GB of internal storage, which can’t be further expanded due to absence of a microSD card slot.

Talking about its OS department, the device runs company’s proprietary iOS 13 that delivers a seamless experience with software and hardware integration unlike any other smartphone. iOS 13 offers more accurate way to sign-in to apps and websites, dramatic look with Dark Mode and more accurate navigation.

On the camera front, the iPhone SE (2020) comes decorated with a single 12-megapixel optically stabilised rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, up to 5x digital zoom, six‑element lens, and OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). The rear camera has a larger and faster sensor, a new colour filter and LED True Tone Flash with Slow Sync. The rear camera is also capable to capture 4K video at 60 fps, Slo‑mo 1080p video at 120 fps or 240 fps. Other rear camera features on the phone include Portrait mode with advanced bokeh and Depth Control, Portrait Lighting with six effects, QuickTake video and Time‑lapse video with stabilization.

The Portrait Lighting mode brings dramatic studio lighting effects (Natural, Studio, Contour, Stage, Stage Mono, High-Key Mono) to the Portrait mode photography.  Apart from this, the camera also supports next-generation Smart HDR that intelligently produces more natural-looking photos with stunning highlight and shadow details.

Talking about its front camera, the smartphone features an advanced 7-megapixel FaceTime HD camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and Retina flash for capturing brighter selfies. The selfie shooter is also capable to record 1080p full-HD videos at 30 fps.

Like the other smartphones, the iPhone SE 2020 also offers various connectivity options including 4G LTE, Dual SIM (nano + eSIM), 802.11ax Wi‑Fi 6 with 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC with reader mode, GPS with GLONASS and apple’s conventional USB port for charging and data transfer. With all these high-end specifications, the device also comes packed with an 1821mAh non-removable battery (same as the iPhone 8) that supports 18W fast charging and Qi wireless charging, giving customers up to 50 percent charge in just half an hour. The battery is rated to deliver up to 13 hours of video playback, up to 8 hours of video playback (streamed), and up to 40 hours of audio playback. Sensors on the device include Touch ID fingerprint sensor, Three‑axis gyro, Barometer, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor and Ambient light sensor. Dimension wise, the handset measures at 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm and weighs 148 grams.
