Due to the current appalling situation caused by the spread of coronavirus/Covid-19, the Narendra Modi government on Monday, 6 April, announced that the President, Vice President, Governors of States, Prime Minister, and all Members of Parliament will bear a 30 percent salary cut for one year.
The announcement will take effect from April 1, 2020. Union Cabinet also confirmed that the slacked amount will be transferred to the Consolidated Fund of India and will be utilized in the fight against the disease.

The announcement came into light after the country realized a chaotic situation in Indian economic stats due to the coronavirus pandemic. Today India has found 693 new positive cases, taking the confirmed cases to 4,067 and reported 109 deaths so far. Globally, the death toll has crossed the 70,000 mark, and the number of confirmed cases rose to 1,288,372.
The Cabinet also approved temporary suspension of the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) fund during 2020-21 & 2021-22 for managing health, and adverse impacts of the nationwide pandemic.

The reduced amount of MPLAD Funds for two years (FY21 and FY22) (Rs. 7,900 crore in total) will go to the consolidated fund of India, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced in a press conference.
