With an increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the state of Karnataka, the Chief Minister, BS Yediyurappa, announced that June 18 will be observed as “Mask Day” in all district headquarters and taluks. The state has organized a walk from Vidhana Soudha to Cubbon Park intending to create awareness on the need of wearing a mask when stepping out in public places. Wearing a mask is an essential measure to prevent COVID-19 infection. BS Yediyurappa also said that sports personalities and film actors will also participate in this event.
The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry stated that over 7,530 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported till date and 94 people have died due to the infection. To control the situation from further worsening, it is important to educate people on the precautionary measures to be taken.
Mentioned below are some preventive measures taken by the state in the fight against coronavirus:
- Apart from the “Mask day”, the state has issued pamphlets and announcements to create awareness on COVID-19 among people.
- BBMP staff and marshals are also seen sharing pamphlets to motorists and pedestrians, disseminating information about precautionary measures in combating COVID 19 infection.
- Meanwhile, the authorities are also penalizing people who are seen roaming outside without a mask.
The state declared that strict actions will continue to be taken against people who do not maintain social distancing or wear a mask, and a fine amount of Rs 200 will be charged.
BBMP marshals reported that on June 11th the civic body collected over Rupees 1.8 lakh in a single day only as a penalty amount for not wearing a mask. In the Marathahalli area, Bengaluru Marshals fined over 40 people for the same.
