In this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, wearing a face mask in public places has now become the new habitual activity, people are using face masks to cover their nose and mouth to safeguard themselves from Coronavirus. This is the new normal but a recent bizarre move by a Pune-based businessman has gone viral on social media and his mask has now gained a lot of attraction on social media.

From costly N95 masks to the medical-grade ones to homemade masks, people are taking precautions as advised by the health authorities and the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent the rapid spread of the highly infectious novel Coronavirus. Masks are now available in the local market in various types, forms, designs and colours. Fashion retailers are now selling masks with prints, neon-coloured photographs, super heroes photos, customized messages,
and others. Among these ordinary masks, one is unique and long-lasting in terms of material and price.

Shankar Kurade, a resident of Pimpri-Chinchwad of Pune, who made headlines for his bizarre  and his pictures has gone viral on social media. Shankar Kurade has got a custom-made mask made for himself to wear during the pandemic. No, no, it’s not an ordinary mask, but a mask made of pure gold and worth Rs. 2.89 lakh.

Being a true lover of gold ornaments, Kurade loves wearing gold ornaments and his fingers, hands, wrist and neck are loaded with luxurious and heavy gold jewellery. Now, his nose and mouth are covered with a custom-made gold mask. This unique mask has minute holes that helps him to breathe.

Talking about how this unique idea of getting a gold mask struck him, Kurade said that he saw a video clip of a man wearing a silver mask on social media. But he is not very sure about the effectiveness of this unique mask in protecting him from the deadly virus.

Popular news agency ANI tweeted multiple photos of Shankar Kurade wearing the shiny gold mask. “It’s a thin mask with minute holes so that there’s no difficulty in breathing. I’m not sure whether this mask will be effective,” he told the news agency.

Right now India ranks fourth position in the world COVID-19 list and Maharashtra is still contributing the maximum number of new cases every day. Till the writing of this report, India has reported its highest daily spike of 22,771 new Coronavirus cases taking the country’s COVID-19 tally to 6,48,315 on Saturday, while the death toll rose to 18,655 with 442 new fatalities. According to the Union Health Ministry data, Maharastra has reported close to 2 lakh cases, including 8,376 deaths.
