Every science student has or wanted to create an explosion in the science lab using chemicals. Even as kids we always had the desire to do the Coca-Cola and baking soda experiment trick to prank our friends or to see how if it actually works. Well, if you are wondering how it happens, let’s bring it into the light. Coca-Cola is actually acidic in nature and when it comes together with the carbonate in baking soda, it form hydrogen carbonate. Gradually, it reacts and breaks down to become carbon dioxide and water. The carbon dioxide then bubbles off by turning into gas. Russian YouTuber Maxim Monakhov created a massive explosion using Coca-Cola and baking soda and documented it on his YouTube channel.
Maxim went out of the ordinary 1-liter bottle of Coca-Cola. He acquired a giant 10,000 liters of Coca-Cola and combined it with one giant pile of baking soda. He conducted the experiment with the help of his friends in a field far from the city. He had planned to perform this experiment for 4 years. He said, “We launched 10,000 litres of cola mixed with soda. Yes, it would seem such an absurd and useless thing – but for me, it means a lot.”
The YouTuber spent a total of 700,000 rubles to carry out this experiment which amounts to 6.95 lakh in India Rupees. The video shows how the team poured commercial bottles of Coca-Cola into a giant, custom-made vat bottle of Coca-Cola. After that, baking soda was used to trigger the explosion. Maxim used baking soda instead of Mentos because it was cheaper and more effective. Even though the team used baking soda for the experiment, the end result ended up being as similar to using mentos. The video was posted on August 21st and has already generated millions of views. It has the potential to go viral and let’s hope it does!
