Real Madrid claimed the La Liga title after they defeated Villarreal at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium in Madrid. With the win, Real Madrid lifted their 34th La Liga title, and the first one in the last three seasons. This is also the team’s second title won under Zinedine Zidane. The club played the match in its all-white primary kit, and thus, was referred to as Los Blancos for the match.
This win is credited to Karim Benzema who scored a brace to lead Real Madrid to a 2-1 in the match against Villarreal. Real Madrid secured its win by giving Villarrel an unassailable seven-point lead before the final day over second-placed FC Barcelona. The victory was further glorified when the team’s arch-rival, and the second on the chart- Barcelona, lost 2-1 to Osasuna with a goal scored by Roberto Torres at the 90th minute.
With one game to spare, this comfortable win by Real Madrid over Villarreal, has finalised their place in the tournament. The team manager Zinedine Zidane described this win as extremely special, he said “The Champions League is the Champions League, but La Liga makes me happier, because La Liga is what it’s all about.” He further added that, “This is a tremendous feeling because what these players have done is incredible. I am lost for words because I am too emotional.”
If you missed out on the nail biting match, we have some highlights for you. The two goals were secured by the star player of the team Karim Benzema. The second was a retaken penalty after he and Sergio Ramos had made a mess of the first. Marcos Asensio of Real Madrid tried to score the third goal, but a missed goal didn’t result in the team missing the win. All efforts of the opponent team to make a goal after that were futile, and this is how Real Madrid rose to the top.
