Snapchat, which is one of the most popular apps among youngsters has launched a new feature called “Here for You” for its users in India. This feature will be helpful for users who are dealing with emotional or mental stress or the ones who want to help their friends. This feature, built-in collaboration with Mariwala Health Initiative and the Manas Foundation might be a game-changer for the app.
The app which has been struggling since Instagram started to offer stories, has finally something to offer which no social media app has been able to. In order to use this feature users need to simply type words like anxiety, depression, loneliness, suicide or mental health and they will be directed to the right resources. The resources will cover a wide range of content on dealing and coping mental disorders along with FAQ from the leading Psychologists.
“We sped up the initial launch of Here For You in February because we recognised that in the wake of coronavirus, our global community needed support. We hope that the resources we launch today better empower them to take positive steps forward when it comes to wellbeing,” said Jennifer Park Stout, VP of Global Public Policy, SnapChat.
Director of Mariwala Health Initiative, Raj Mariwala said that “Our videos in the Here For You section discuss how to deal with stress and anxiety, how to support a loved one experiencing distress and ways to enhance mental well-being through mindfulness/grounding exercises.”
This feature indeed comes at the right time for youngsters who are confined in the four walls of their houses with limited resources to vent out. This initiative by Snapchat has been getting positive feedback from people all over the world, let’s just hope that it turns out to be favourable for the people who are suffering. If that happens, then it won’t be a surprised that Snapchat gains all its lost audience in the near future.
