Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G with Periscope Camera Launched: Price, Specs and More

After endless leaks and rumours, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has finally taken off the wraps of its latest mid-range offering, “Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G” in the company’s homeground, China. Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G is the company’s latest mid-range 5G smartphone that borrows most of its characteristics from the company’s last Mi 10 Lite. The only difference is that the freshly launched Mi 10 Youth Edition now gets a periscope-style camera setup, which the Mi 10 Lite lacks.

The new smartphone is especially designed for young users as it comes packed with a plenty of smart features such as 5G connectivity support, periscope-style camera setup, 48-megapixel camera setup with 50x zooming capabilities, a huge AMOLED waterdrop screen, gaming-centric Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, dual-mode suspension liquid cooling, a denser 4160mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging support.

As for pricing and availability, the Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G model comes in four variants based on its RAM and internal storage properties.

All the variants will be available for pre-orders starting from today and the sale will commence for the same from April 30 in China. The phone will be made available in China in five body shades including Black Skill Storm, Blueberry Mint, Peach Grapefruit, Four Seasons Spring Milk Green, and White Peach Oolong. Unfortunately, the company has made no official announcement about the smartphone’s global launch. But it is said to be introduced globally as Mi 10 Lite Zoom.

Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G Specifications:

In terms of specifications, the new Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G model comes equipped with a huge, waterdrop-style 6.57-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The HDR 10+ compatible display has a 20:9 aspect ratio and offers a stunning 800 nit brightness.

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G octa-core processor (1 x 2.4GHz + 1 x 2.2GHz + 6 x 1.8GHz Kryo 475 CPUs) coupled with Adreno 620 image processing unit to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the device comes loaded with a 6GB/8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal storage (UFS 2.1), which can be further expanded via a microSD card.

Talking about its OS part, the Mi 10 Youth Edition runs company’s proprietary MIUI 11 custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 10 operating system. The company claims that the OS is further upgradable to recently announced MIUI 12. The MIUI 12 is slated to roll out globally by the end of June 2020. The smartphone also features an In-Display fingerprint sensor for the bio-metric authentication process.

For photography, the Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G features a quad rear-facing camera setup with LED Flash for excellent low-light photography. Quad rear camera setup packs a 48-megapixel sensor with an f/1.79 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS); one 8-megapixel 120° ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture; one 8-megapixel telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture with 50X periscopic zoom, 5x optical zoom, and 10x hybrid optical zoom, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front, the smartphone carries a 16-megapixel front-facing shooter with AI feature that offers users a plenty of cool tricks during photography.

For connectivity, the Mi 10 Youth Edition supports dual-SIM dual standby, 5G stand alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA), Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, NFC, a 3.5 mm audio jack, Hi-Res audio, and a USB Type-C port. Sensors on the device include a Proximity sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Accelerometer, Fingerprint (In-Display), Infrared, Gyroscope and E-compass sensor. Talking about its powerhouse, the smartphone is fuelled by a powerful 4,160mAh battery that supports 22.5w fast charging. Dimensionally, the smartphone measures 164.06 x 72.77 x 7.88 mm and weighs around 192 grams.
